Is this an SS180 crank?

This is my crank

It's not like the round ones shown in the parts books?

Does anyone know anything about this type of crank.

Is it better for performance etc to have the round design or the 'cut' design like the one I have?
Cheers
Sam
UPDATE: 7th July
Thanks to some help from a couple of fellow SS owners I have established the picture in the parts book is really a generic after market crank and the one I have is from an SS :)

  1. That is not an SS180 crank . . . I believe.

This is a MeCur aftermarket VSC crank:

    Note the roundness.

Also, not you should expect to pay $160 for a MeCur SS180 crank. Try Scooter Parts Direct. Tell Danell (pronounced Danielle) that Jeremy sent you.

  3. Cheers Jeremy, was wondering whether to put it in the "replace with original if it can be found" pile. There's a company here that's been stockpiling scooter parts for years, they found me an original hub assembly for the front so will call them and see what they have, their catalouge shows they have an original SS180 crank for $295 AUD which is the dearest item I will have to buy to get her running right, all else is OK so far. The running tally will be about $600 by the time I've got a decent crank, all the seals, gaskets, brakes, bearings, cables and missing engine bits like those little cone shaped brass hub bushes and nuts, bolts, washers etc.

I think I will also renew the frame mounts and bushes, I have an engineer mate who can help with all that stuff, may as well while I'm in there.
Tomorrow I'm bead blasting everything to get the layers of white enamel off hubs etc, and to clean the cases of course. At some stage the whole case was painted red!
    More soon
    :)

  4. The crank you pulled out is an SS crank. The parts book drawing is generic and does not accurately represent an SS crank. You can also look on the Scooterworks and SIP sites to see photos of a standard SS crank and you will see that it looks just like the one you pulled out of your motor.

  5. Thanks Paul, I have seen all sorts of shapes and was getting confused. This one is in good condition really, I'm having it lookd at by an engineer just to make sure everything is true and by the sounds of what you said- will put it back in. :) Cheers. Sam
